Ecuador Cocoa Exports Fall 18.7% Year-on-Year Through April Despite Strong Global Demand
Ecuador Cocoa Exports Reach $135.2 Million in April as Global Demand Remains Strong

Ecuador's cocoa exports continued to slow in 2026, with cumulative cocoa bean shipments through April reaching 144,264 metric tons, down 18.7% from 177,518 metric tons during the same period in 2025.

According to data released by Anecacao, Ecuador exported 32,175 metric tons of cocoa beans in April, compared with 37,000 metric tons in April 2025, extending the weaker shipment trend observed since the start of the year.

The decline comes despite continued demand from major consuming countries and highlights the tightening supply conditions affecting parts of the global cocoa market.

The year-to-date decline of 33,254 metric tons represents a significant reduction in Ecuadorian cocoa availability compared with last year.

Export Value Reaches $135.2 Million

Despite lower export volumes, Ecuador's exports of cocoa and cocoa products generated $135.2 million in April, reflecting the continued support from elevated global cocoa prices.

In addition to cocoa bean exports, Ecuador shipped 5,878 metric tons of processed and semi-processed cocoa products during the month.

Malaysia and United States Remain Key Buyers

Malaysia remained the largest destination for Ecuadorian cocoa beans in April, importing 8,890 metric tons, while the United States imported 8,592 metric tons.

The United States also continued to lead purchases of Ecuador's processed and semi-processed cocoa products, importing 4,010 metric tons during the month.
